Police I.G Reports Surge in Criminal Activities

The Inspector-General (I.G) of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has raised the alarm over a significant surge in criminal activities across Nigeria in recent weeks. Moreover, addressing journalists at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, Egbetokun revealed startling statistics, indicating a sharp increase in terror, kidnapping, and homicide cases over the past eight weeks.

The I.G.P’s report states that the police received reports of a total of 141 terror-related incidents, 214 kidnappings, and 537 homicide cases during the specified period. These figures underscore a worrying trend of escalating violence and criminality in various parts of the country.

In response to the surge in criminal activities, the Nigeria Police Force has intensified its efforts to apprehend perpetrators and rescue victims. Additionally, Egbetokun disclosed that the police have arrested 3,685 suspects for their involvement in various crimes and have successfully rescued 401 kidnap victims.

The I.G.P emphasized the police force’s commitment to supporting the families of deceased officers. Additionally, cheques totaling N7,263,391,051.73 have been presented to the families of 2,5143 fallen police officers. This demonstrates the police’s dedication to their welfare.
Their ongoing support ensures the families receive assistance during difficult times.

Amidst the nation’s escalating security challenges, Egbetokun stressed the necessity for vigilance and collaboration among stakeholders. He underscored the vital role of continuous refinement in policing strategies.

Egbetokun emphasized that staying ahead of criminal elements is crucial to guaranteeing the safety and security of all citizens. This requires a proactive approach to anticipate and respond effectively to evolving threats.
