Labour Party Warns N.L.C Against Unlawful Actions, Dismisses Attempt to Oust N.W.C as Illegitimate

In a recent development, the Labour Party warns the Nigeria Labour Congress (N.L.C) over what it perceives as unlawful actions and attempts to interfere in its internal affairs. The party has categorically dismissed the N.L.C’s efforts to remove the National Working Committee (N.W.C) as illegitimate and lacking in constitutional backing.

According to a statement released by the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the party condemned the N.L.C’s purported attempt to assert authority beyond its mandate. The statement labeled the stakeholders’ meeting organized by the N.L.C as illegal and unauthorized, asserting that the N.L.C has no jurisdiction to convene such gatherings to deliberate on party matters.

Ifoh further accused the N.L.C of colluding with certain political interests to destabilize opposition parties, including the Labour Party. He highlighted the N.L.C’s alleged partnership with political figures aiming to disrupt the party’s internal processes and sow discord within its ranks.

The Labour Party reaffirmed its commitment to upholding its constitution and democratic principles, emphasizing that the current N.W.C was duly elected and enjoys the support of the party members. The statement concluded with a pledge to pursue legal avenues to protect the party’s integrity and resist any attempts to undermine its autonomy.

The warning issued by the Labour Party underscores the escalating tensions between political organizations and labor unions in Nigeria, raising concerns about the politicization of labor movements and their potential impact on democratic processes. As the situation unfolds, stakeholders will be closely monitoring developments to assess the implications for Nigeria’s political landscape.
