Controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, made headlines on Friday as he appeared in the Federal High Court in Lagos State and admits to being a man. This revelation came during his sentencing for the charge of abusing the Nigerian currency, the naira.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro presided over the case and delivered a six-month imprisonment sentence without the option of a fine for Bobrisky’s offense. Before the sentencing, the judge inquired about Bobrisky’s gender, to which he promptly responded that he was indeed a man.
The court’s decision to hand down such a sentence was driven by its intent to serve as a deterrent to others who might engage in similar acts of abusing and mutilating the naira. Justice Awogboro emphasized the severity of the offense and the necessity of upholding the integrity of the national currency.
Bobrisky’s admission to being male and subsequent sentencing mark a significant development in his legal journey. Despite his pleas for leniency and claims of ignorance regarding the law surrounding currency abuse, the court upheld its conviction. This event underscores the importance of adhering to legal standards and the consequences of violating them, regardless of one’s public persona.
