Mikel Obi Stubborn and out of my League- Siasia

Former Nigerian coach Samson Siasia Speaking on a podcast with ex-international Emmanuel Babayaro and journalist Matthew Edafe, Siasia described Mikel Obi as “a little bit out of my league” and stubborn, cited his stubbornness as a challenge. This is in regards of his complex relationship with ex-Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi, during his tenure as the the national team’s head coach.

Siasia admitted that despite his challenges managing Mikel Obi due to the player’s perceived stubbornness, he recognized Obi’s significant contributions during the 2016 Olympic Games. Nigeria’s achievement of the bronze medal in the tournament was largely attributed to Obi’s leadership qualities and his commendable performance on the field. Despite their differences, Siasia acknowledged Obi’s role as a captain and praised his ability to lead and inspire his fellow teammates, ultimately contributing to the team’s success in the competition.

When asked about the most complete player he has coached, Siasia lavished praise on Chinedu Ogbuke, highlighting his exceptional skills and talent on the field. Referring to Ogbuke as a “magician,” Siasia expressed profound admiration for the player’s abilities, noting that he often replicated his impressive performances from practice sessions in actual matches. Siasia’s admiration for Ogbuke’s consistency and proficiency underscores the impact the player had during his time under Siasia’s coaching, reflecting the high regard in which he holds Ogbuke’s talent and contributions to the team.
