Bandits raid Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTEC), Osara, Okene, Kogi State, abduct students during their exam preparation on Thursday night. The attackers, armed and arriving through the bush, disrupted classes by firing shots into the air, trapping students in three lecture halls.
As chaos ensued, security guards engaged the bandits, limiting their access to the first three halls. The abducted students were preparing for their upcoming exams scheduled to start on Monday, May 13, when the attack occurred. Some students sought refuge in the bush for over an hour until the situation calmed.
While CUSTEC Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdulraman Asipita, confirmed the incident, he declined to provide details on the number of abducted students. Authorities like the Kogi Commissioner of Police and State Security Adviser could not be reached for comment. Abduction incidents, unfortunately, reflect the rising trend of ransom-seeking kidnappings across Nigeria. In February, gunmen abducted nine travellers along the Kabba/Obajana/Lokoja Road in Kogi State.
