On Friday, Prince Harry and Meghan arrived in Nigeria to back the Invictus Games, supporting wounded veterans and service members. Their visit marks their first to West Africa and follows an invitation from the Nigerian military.
Their journey to West Africa signifies their inaugural trip to the area, prompted by an invitation from the Nigerian military. Brigadier General Tukur Gusau verified their presence in Abuja.
During their Nigeria visit, Prince Harry and Meghan plan to meet wounded soldiers, aiming to boost morale and well-being. Nigerian officials have commended this initiative, recognizing it as a significant opportunity for the recovery of Nigerian soldiers. Abidemi Marquis, Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters Sports Director, hailed the Invictus Games, stressing its pivotal role in soldiers’ recovery.
In 2014, Prince Harry, also known as Captain Wales in Afghanistan, established the Invictus Games, providing sports events for wounded veterans. His initiative aims to empower wounded veterans and service members, providing them with opportunities for athletic competition and camaraderie. Through the Invictus Games, Prince Harry seeks to inspire resilience and promote rehabilitation among wounded veterans worldwide.
Nigeria participated in the games last year. Additionally, during their visit, the royal couple plans to attend basketball and volleyball matches and interact with local non-governmental organizations in Abuja and Lagos that benefit from their support. Meghan will also co-host an event on women in leadership with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization, as per their spokesman Charlie Gipson’s statement.
