Ibrahim Babangida was involved in a car crash with his brother Tijani, his wife, son, and maid; but unfortunately, did not survive. The crash also injured his brother Tijani Babangida, his wife, son, and maid.
Emmanuel Babayaro, an Olympic gold medalist and the General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria, sadly confirmed the passing of Ibrahim Babangida. He conveyed that Babangida’s final resting place would be in Kaduna, where he would be laid to rest following Islamic customs and prayers held after Jumat prayers.
As an esteemed figure in Nigerian football circles, Babayaro’s announcement marked a somber moment for the footballing community. His disclosure of Babangida’s burial arrangements underscored the solemnity of the occasion, with preparations aligned with Islamic traditions and customs.
Garba Lawal, another Olympic gold medalist, expressed solidarity with the Babangida family, hoping for the swift recovery of those still hospitalized. Lawal reminisced about their shared football experiences and conveyed prayers for their well-being.
Former Eagles goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu, Victor Agali, Edema Fuludu, and Jonathan Akpoborie were among those shocked by the news. They immediately reached out to Tijani Babangida, who was recuperating in the hospital.
