IPOB Insists on May 30 Sit-at-Home
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reaffirmed that the May 30 sit-at-home will be strictly observed across the South-East. They urged all residents to stay home to commemorate “Biafra Heroes Day.”
Commemoration of Biafra Heroes Day
Earlier, IPOB directed the West African Examination Council and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, to reschedule their activities planned for the day. They declared May 30 as a day to honour those who fought during the civil war from 1967 to 1970.
Security and Government Warnings
IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful, emphasized that no government or security agency should harass anyone during the event. He also stated that all social activities, including markets, schools, banks, and businesses, must remain closed from 6 am to 6 pm.

Powerful reiterated the importance of remembering those who fought for Biafra’s freedom and sovereignty. He stressed that the sit-at-home order is essential and urged everyone to comply.
Government’s Response and Public Safety
The group called on state governors in the region to ensure the safety of people and property on that day. They clarified that students taking WAEC exams should wear their uniforms to avoid being mistaken for protesters.
Honouring Biafran Heroes
IPOB also remembered international supporters like Bruce Mayrock and prominent figures such as General Phillip Efiong and Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. They encouraged Biafrans abroad to obtain permits for rallies to raise global awareness about the Biafran war and its heroes.
