Fear grips Abia State, as residents panic following the Nigerian military’s declaration that those responsible for the killing of five soldiers would face justice. The soldiers were killed at an Army checkpoint in Aba on Thursday, sparking outrage and concern among the residents.

Military’s Firm Response

In a press release, Major General Edward Buba, Army Director of Defence Media Operations, vowed that the killers of the soldiers would be apprehended and punished. The military emphasized that these soldiers, deployed to enforce peace, met their end at the hands of terrorists in three Prado Toyota SUVs.

Investigation and Retaliation

The Army stated that investigations into the attack had commenced. The military pledged to retaliate against the perpetrators by launching overwhelming military pressure to ensure their defeat.

Community’s Reaction

The attack has thrown the state into deep panic, with key stakeholders condemning the act. Senator Orji Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatisation, demanded justice for the perpetrators. He urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, emphasizing the importance of peace for development.

Calls for Justice

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South, described the attack as disheartening and barbaric. He urged security authorities to apprehend the killers swiftly. Abaribe stressed that harming security officers is unjustifiable and called for the protection of innocent civilians.

Government’s Measures

The state government has placed a N25m bounty on the perpetrators. Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, announced the reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. The state commits to ensuring justice and preventing such incidents in the future.
