Democracy Day Celebration: Tinubu Slips as Atiku, Obi Shows Sympathy

Incident at Eagles Square

Following President Tinubu’s slip at the Eagles Square in Abuja on Wednesday, during the Democracy Day celebration, a slip the president termed as mild, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, have expressed their sympathies to him. Both took to their X handle to show their concerns towards the president.

President Tinubu, who slipped while attempting to board the presidential parade vehicle, was promptly assisted by security personnel on the scene.

Atiku’s Sympathetic Message

Reacting to the incident, Atiku Abubakar took to his X handle to sympathise with Tinubu, acknowledging the unfortunate nature of the slip. Atiku expressed his hope that all was well with the President and extended his best wishes for his health and safety during the event.

Obi’s Call for Compassion

Similarly, Peter Obi also responded on X, emphasising that the incident was not something to gloat about. He urged Nigerians to remember their common human frailty and focus on issues that would lead to a better Nigeria. Obi highlighted the importance of empathy and unity, reminding everyone that such accidents could happen to anyone.

Contrasting Reaction from Sowore

In contrast, Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the previous election, criticised Tinubu, describing him as an ailing leader using Nigeria as health insurance. Sowore’s comments reflected a starkly different perspective, raising concerns about the President’s fitness to lead.

Eagles Square Celebration

Meanwhile, the Democracy Day celebration at Eagles Square featured the unveiling of a large portrait painting of President Tinubu by the National Troupe. The portrait, acclaimed as the world’s largest painting on canvas, added a significant artistic highlight to the Democracy Day festivities.
