Stop Politicising Kanu’s Release MASSOB Urges S’East Governors

Call for Unified Effort

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has urged South-East governors to stop politicising the Nnamdi Kanu’s release, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Ralph Uwazuruike, MASSOB’s founder, expressed his discontent in a viral video, highlighting the flawed approach of regional leaders towards Kanu’s detention.

Uwazuruike Criticises Politicians

Uwazuruike criticised the governors and senators from the South-East for their handling of Kanu’s situation. He argued that their political manoeuvring is counterproductive. Uwazuruike emphasised that President Bola Tinubu cannot unilaterally order Kanu’s release without consulting the National Security Adviser.

Detention Since 2021

Nnamdi Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his rendition from Kenya in 2021. Despite numerous appeals and protests, his release remains a contentious issue. Uwazuruike underscored that the security chiefs, rather than the President or the Attorney General, hold the power to release Kanu.

Security Chiefs Hold the Key

Uwazuruike called on the governors and senators to engage directly with the security chiefs, including the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff, rather than merely taking symbolic actions in Abuja. He stressed the importance of a well-documented security report to justify Kanu’s release.

Meeting with the National Security Adviser

The MASSOB leader suggested that a convincing security report presented to the National Security Adviser (NSA) would facilitate Kanu’s release. He criticised the current approach of South-East politicians, urging them to focus on substantial efforts rather than photo opportunities and political grandstanding.

Proper Procedures Required

Uwazuruike reiterated that the path to Kanu’s freedom lies in proper engagement with the relevant security authorities. He advised South-East governors and senators to prioritise concrete steps over politicised actions, ensuring that their efforts are aligned with the legal and security frameworks.
