#EndBadGovernment protests Unfolds with Varied Outcomes

Peaceful Protests and Violent Clashes

Following the #EndBadGovernment protests in Nigeria, different outcomes have emerged across the country. While many regions witnessed peaceful demonstrations, some areas, particularly in the northern parts, experienced violent confrontations between police and protesters. Reports indicate incidents of looting and property destruction. Notably, a bomb attack in Borno claimed 16 lives and left many injured. Escalating violence in Kano, Kaduna, and Jigawa has led governors to declare curfews in these regions.

Pro-Government Counter-Protesters Emerge

Amidst the #EndBadGovernment protests, pro-government counter-protesters have also made their presence felt. These individuals argue that the president needs more time to implement policies, highlighting his achievements. They call for patience and support for the government, emphasising that changes are forthcoming.

Calls for Presidential Action in Abuja

In Abuja, Mrs. Mary, a member of the #EndBadGovernment protest, urged the president to address pressing issues. She called for the reopening of borders and suggested that the president visit markets to understand the economic challenges faced by citizens. While commending the president’s efforts, she implored him to heed the cries of the suffering populace.

Tensions Rise in Lagos

In Lagos, tensions escalated as protesters decried the misconduct of thugs threatening their peaceful demonstration. Although authorities provided Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park for the protest, initial attempts to use the space were met with resistance from hoodlums. The Police in charge assured protesters of their safety and promised to remain with them until the protest concluded. He also pledged to provide water and snacks for the demonstrators.

Port Harcourt’s Peaceful Protests

In Port Harcourt, the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu praised the cooperative and peaceful nature of the protesters. He expressed gratitude for their courage in voicing their grievances and noted that Port Harcourt stood out for its complete support from the public.
