Enugu, August 5, 2024 – Leaders in the Southeast of Nigeria, including Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, and Minister of Works, David Umahi, have collectively commended their constituents for not participating in the recent nationwide hunger protests. During a media session in Enugu, the officials highlighted the avoidance of protests as a sign of the region’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and policies.

Governor Mbah expressed his appreciation for the populace’s compliance with leadership calls to focus on work rather than demonstrations. “We must appreciate the patience and hard work of our people. Their decision to not engage in the protests not only prevents potential damages but also reinforces our commitment to the Federal Government’s reforms,” he stated.

The Southeast’s decision is portrayed as a constructive move towards national integration and recognition. Minister Umahi pointed out that the federal government’s recent appointments and developmental initiatives in the region are significant. “By not protesting, we make a strong statement about our desire for a stable and integrated role in Nigeria’s governance,” Umahi explained.

In Abia State, Governor Alex Otti also expressed his gratitude towards the residents for their peaceful demeanor, particularly during a Sabbath service. He commended their orderly conduct, highlighting how their decision to abstain from the protests reflected a mature response to his and other leaders’ appeals for maintaining peace and stability in the region.

“The calm and disciplined nature of our citizens in avoiding disruptions during these tense times not only shows respect for our appeals but also strengthens our community’s commitment to peace and stability,” remarked Governor Otti, praising the responsible actions of the people of Abia.
