Nigeria is Unfair to Delta: Peter Obi’s Justice Call

On Tuesday, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, along with the National Working Committee led by Barr. Julius Abure, visited Bayelsa State. They presented their gubernatorial candidate, Engr. Udengs Eradiri, and his citizen’s charter. The visit spotlighted Peter Obi’s concerns to question if Nigeria is unfair to Niger Delta.

The Plight of the Niger Delta

Driving from Port Harcourt through the East-West Rd, Peter Obi expressed his dismay. “Nigeria has not been fair to the Niger Delta, considering its resource contribution to the nation,” he stated.

Bayelsa’s Alarming Poverty Rate

With an 88.5% poverty rate, Bayelsa State ranks as the second poorest state in Nigeria. This is a glaring contradiction, given that Bayelsa was where Nigeria first discovered oil in January 1956.

The Leadership Crisis

“Bayelsa should be one of the most developed states in the country,” said Peter Obi. However, due to poor leadership, the state and the entire Niger Delta region remain desolate.

A Vision for a New Nigeria

Peter Obi urged the people of Bayelsa to support their vision for transforming the state and the nation from consumption to production. “This is the way to build the New Bayelsa, and ultimately, the New Nigeria of our dreams,” he added.

Presentation of Gubernatorial Candidate: A Step Towards Change

During the visit, a significant event was the presentation of the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate, Engr. Udengs Eradiri. Accompanied by the National Working Committee and led by Barr. Julius Abure, Peter Obi introduced Eradiri and his citizen’s charter to the people of Bayelsa State.

Peter Obi emphasised that the selection of Eradiri is a strategic move aimed at bringing about the much-needed change in Bayelsa. “Engr. Udengs Eradiri is not just a candidate; he is a symbol of the transformation we aim to bring to Bayelsa and, by extension, to Nigeria,” Peter Obi stated.

The citizen’s charter presented by Eradiri outlines key areas of focus, including economic development, healthcare, and education. It serves as a roadmap for what the people of Bayelsa can expect should they choose to support the Labour Party in the upcoming elections.

This presentation marks a pivotal moment in the Labour Party’s campaign, adding substance to their promise of good governance and a brighter future for Bayelsa State.
