E-CMR Set to Revolutionise Vehicle Registration
The Nigeria Police Force has announced the benefits of its newly launched Electronic Central Motor Registry (E-CMR) system, designed to modernise vehicle information handling on the roads. Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed that the digital registry would ease the process of verifying vehicle details and enhance safety across the country. The announcement, made via social media, highlights the efficiency of this “e-policing” innovation.
Seamless Vehicle Registration and Verification
Under the leadership of Inspector-General Olukayode Egbetokun, the E-CMR allows vehicle owners to register and manage their vehicle information digitally. This system provides faster responses during emergencies and theft situations. Adejobi stated, “If you register your vehicle with the NPF E-CMR and it gets stolen, you can instantly flag it as stolen through your online profile,” adding that this action would immediately alert officers nationwide.
No More Paperwork at Checkpoints
One of the key features of the new system is its ability to remove the need for physical documents during road checks. Officers will use advanced technology to verify vehicle registration in real-time. Adejobi tweeted, “No more stopping to check papers—our officers are equipped with cutting-edge tech to verify documents instantly.” This innovation will reduce delays at checkpoints and enhance the overall policing experience.
Improved Services for Vehicle Owners
The E-CMR also simplifies other vehicle-related services, including ownership transfers, license renewals, and updates to engine or chassis details. According to Adejobi, these updates will help prevent the sale of stolen vehicles and improve recovery efforts, ensuring a more secure environment for vehicle owners.
Modernising Nigeria’s Vehicle Registry System
The digitalisation of the Central Motor Registry is part of a broader strategy to enhance Nigeria’s safety and security infrastructure. The IGP’s initiative aims to streamline vehicle ownership documentation, making it faster and more convenient for citizens. The NPF expects that this will help combat car theft and support the modernisation of vehicle management across the country.
Positive Reception from the Public
The public has welcomed the E-CMR system, with many Nigerians praising its potential to eliminate challenges tied to traditional vehicle documentation. As the police roll out the system nationwide, they expect it to reduce administrative bottlenecks and improve service delivery.
