October 7 Attack Anniversary: Hamas Launches Attack Again

Projectile Attacks Disrupt Memorial Ceremonies

On Monday, Gaza militants launched at least four projectiles, aligning with the first anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks. Sirens blared at 06:31 across several communities near Gaza. The Israeli Air Force intercepted three rockets, while one landed in an open area. These attacks disrupted Israel’s formal commemoration of last year’s tragic events.

Hamas Claims Responsibility for Rocket Fire

The armed wing of Hamas quickly claimed responsibility for the rocket fire, targeting areas in southern Israel, including the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings. Israel’s military swiftly responded by targeting Hamas launch sites and underground terrorist infrastructure across Gaza. The military also stated that they had successfully neutralised further threats of rocket fire from Hamas militants.

Israeli Forces Intensify Strikes in Gaza

Overnight, Israeli air and artillery strikes hit key targets in central Gaza that posed a threat to Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) operating in the region. Escalating violence has triggered continuous rocket fire from both Gaza and neighbouring Lebanon, where Hezbollah militants sporadically clash with Israeli forces.

Tensions Escalate in Northern Israel

The situation has also intensified in northern Israel, with sirens sounding in the Upper Galilee region due to increased rocket fire from Lebanon. In addition to intercepting these threats, the Israeli military reported the interception of two “suspicious aerial targets” launched from the east on Monday morning. The tension across multiple fronts continues to strain the region.

Commemorating the Victims of the October 7 Attack

As Israel marks the first anniversary of the Hamas attacks, memorial services have been held, including a poignant event at Kibbutz Reim near the site of the Nova music festival. Families and supporters of Israeli hostages gathered to remember the victims. The attacks last year resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 civilians, leaving a lasting impact on the country.

Global Appeals for Ceasefire Amid Continued Conflict

Amid the violence, global leaders have called for a ceasefire, although no truce has yet been reached. The Israeli military remains vigilant as the threat of further attacks continues to loom, and efforts by mediators have so far failed to bring peace to the region.
