Recently, the Concerned Igbo Ministers Commission accused South-East governors of complicity in Nnamdi Kanu’s ongoing detention. They described this situation as a “demonic scheme” targeting the Igbo community. The inter-religious group called for widespread condemnation from all relevant stakeholders.
President/Coordinator Rev. Tony Uzo Anthony and General Secretary Apostle Tony Osuji endorsed the group’s statement, expressing growing concern about Kanu’s case. They emphasize that the presiding judge has ignored a Supreme Court ruling, which has directly led to Kanu’s unjust imprisonment. Furthermore, this neglect has allowed others convicted of serious crimes to be released without facing any consequences..
The same judge previously acknowledged to a third party that political motivations influenced the charges against Kanu, adding to the controversy. The clerics questioned the judge’s integrity and criticized the South-East governors for their motives. They accuse these governors of conspiring to keep Kanu incarcerated for political gain.
In their statement, the ministers claim that the governors plan to detain Kanu until the end of next year. They intend to release him strategically to help President Bola Ahmed Tinubu secure votes in the South-East and South-South regions. The ministers urged the Igbo diaspora to intervene by reaching out to political leaders in Kenya, Britain, and Nigeria for Kanu’s release.
The clerics expressed that the South-East governors appear more interested in maintaining their security funding than in pursuing peace. They urged these leaders to engage with Kanu and seek solutions for the region’s instability instead of perpetuating detention and manipulation.
In conclusion, the Concerned Igbo Ministers Commission urges all Nigerians, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and pressure groups to unite. They perceive an unjust system targeting Kanu and, by extension, the Igbo people. The commission calls for collective action to address this perceived injustice. They assert that anyone complicit in this alleged conspiracy will share the responsibility for any adverse outcome for Kanu.
