Refutation of Allegations
Dangote Petroleum Refinery addressed allegations of delays faced by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in loading products. In a statement on October 31, the refinery clarified that it is not responsible for these loading challenges. Additionally, Dangote stated that it has no direct business dealings with IPMAN, distancing itself from the issues.
Clarification on Payment Processes
According to the statement, all transactions by IPMAN members have been processed through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). Dangote emphasized that NNPCL has neither approved nor authorized the release of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to IPMAN through their refinery, creating confusion regarding the supply chain.
Operational Capacity and Direct Engagement
The refinery stated that it can load up to 2,900 trucks daily and is actively evacuating petroleum products by sea. Dangote urged IPMAN members to register directly with the refinery and make payments directly, assuring them of sufficient product availability to meet their demands.
Warning Against Speculation
Dangote also cautioned stakeholders against making speculative statements in the media, urging a focus on collaboration rather than conflict. The company stressed the importance of unity in promoting efficient operations and ensuring smooth fuel distribution across the nation.
Commitment to Fuel Supply
Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, reiterated Dangote’s capability to satisfy the national demand for petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel. He confirmed that by registering and paying directly, IPMAN members could access the needed products without delays.
Changes in Fuel Distribution Dynamics
This statement follows earlier claims that Dangote Petroleum Refinery started supplying petrol directly to oil marketers, bypassing NNPCL’s involvement. This change in Nigeria’s fuel distribution model enables oil marketers to buy petrol directly from the refinery. The new approach enhances the dynamics of the fuel market through a willing-buyer, willing-seller arrangement.
