IPMAN to Buy Petrol from Dangote Refinery at N940-N990

IPMAN Secures Direct Petrol Supply from Dangote Refinery

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) secured an agreement to buy petrol directly from the Dangote Refinery. Over 30,000 IPMAN members plan to purchase Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in bulk. This direct arrangement aims to lower pump prices by cutting out third-party costs. This arrangement marks a significant step toward more affordable fuel access across Nigeria.

Cost of Petrol Set at Two Rates

As per the new arrangement, Dangote Refinery has set two price rates for marketers. IPMAN members can purchase petrol at ₦940 per litre if transported by ship and at ₦990 per litre for trucks. This flexibility allows marketers to choose the option best suited to their logistics needs, further helping to stabilise fuel prices nationwide.

IPMAN’s Focus on Affordable Retail Prices

IPMAN President Abubakar Garima stated on Channels Television that this direct purchase would lower pump prices at their retail outlets. He explained that buying directly from Dangote, instead of through intermediaries like NNPC or depot owners, reduces costs. This arrangement aims to make fuel more affordable and accessible for consumers.

Shift Away from Importing Fuel

This agreement with Dangote may end IPMAN’s reliance on imported petrol, aligning with IPMAN’s long-standing support for the Dangote refinery. IPMAN Vice President Hammed Fashola highlighted that the direct supply will eliminate the need for fuel imports, as locally produced fuel will now meet their distribution requirements across Nigeria.

Steps Towards Ending Fuel Scarcity

Garima explained that this arrangement would also address issues related to fuel scarcity. With direct access to petrol from Dangote Refinery, IPMAN anticipates faster and more consistent deliveries to filling stations, minimising delays and ensuring continuous supply across the nation.
