Maritime Training Milestone Achieved
Ninety-eight delegates of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) have successfully concluded their specialised maritime skills training at the Joemarine Institute of Nautical Studies and Research, Delta State. The one-month intensive programme, aimed at enhancing vocational capabilities, culminated in a formal graduation ceremony held on Tuesday at the institute’s premises.
Strategic Empowerment for the Niger Delta
Dr Dennis Otuaro, the Administrator of PAP, lauded the initiative as a significant step in manpower development for the Niger Delta region. Addressing the graduates, he emphasised the programme’s alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s blue economy policy, which seeks to harness the maritime sector’s vast opportunities. “This milestone underscores our commitment to developing the human capital needed for regional and national growth,” Otuaro stated.
Bolstering National Development
Dr Otuaro highlighted the critical role of specialised maritime training in economic development. He noted that the programme equips cadets with skills essential for the maritime industry, supporting the nation’s broader economic policies. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for their steadfast support of the initiative.
Joemarine Institute’s Role
Akpos Epidei, Managing Director of the Joemarine Institute, expressed appreciation for the confidence shown by PAP in their training capabilities. He recommended the introduction of advanced certification programmes to further enhance the skill sets of maritime cadets.
Recognition from Delta State Leadership
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, represented by his aide Amafini Akemeotubo, commended the programme’s impact. He praised Dr Otuaro for refocusing PAP’s objectives to deliver tangible benefits to the Niger Delta communities.
