Obidient Movement Vows Stronger Push for 2027 Elections

Renewed Commitment for 2027 Elections

The Obidient Movement has pledged a stronger and more coordinated effort ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. Speaking at the All Obidient Forum in Asaba, Delta State, the movement’s leaders vowed to surpass their 2023 achievements. Delta Obidient Elders’ Council Chairman, Chief Chris Biose, praised the group’s accomplishments in the last elections and urged for intensified mobilisation to achieve a “New Nigeria.”

Reflecting on 2023 Achievements

Chief Biose commended the movement for its ability to secure over 10 million votes for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential elections. He highlighted the Obidients’ ability to challenge entrenched political structures like the APC and PDP within a short mobilisation period. “The electorate that supported Peter Obi is still here, disappointed but eager for change,” he stated, calling for renewed dedication.

Structural Changes to Strengthen the Movement

Acknowledging the absence of a formal hierarchy in 2023, Biose lauded Peter Obi’s decision to appoint Dr. Tanko Yunusa as the interim national coordinator. He urged Obidient support groups to work cohesively, ensuring the movement achieves its objectives for 2027. “This is not just about protest marches; it’s about dismantling the systems sustaining injustice in Nigeria,” he asserted.

Calls for Electoral Reform

The movement emphasised the need for electoral reforms to dismantle incompetent governance structures. Biose argued that countermeasures must be developed to prevent electoral fraud in future polls. He noted that Nigerian youths remain the backbone of the movement and called on elders to guide and inspire them to remain focused on the mission for a better Nigeria.

Leaders Encourage Early Mobilisation

Speaking via Zoom, Peter Obi and other key figures, including Prof. Pat Utomi and Dr. Tanko Yunusa, underscored the importance of early preparation. Obi described the theme of the conference, “Reawakening and Harmonising the Obidient Movement for a New Nigeria,” as timely. He encouraged members to adopt strategic networking to attract more supporters and overcome challenges from the 2023 elections.

Youths as Drivers of Change

Prof. Chris Nwaokobia reiterated the pivotal role of youths in driving the movement. He described the current government as directionless, urging the Obidients to remain resilient. “A New Nigeria is possible. Go out, engage more people, and strengthen the movement,” he said. The conference ended with a renewed sense of purpose, as members vowed to make 2027 a defining moment for Nigeria’s political future.
