New Education Policy in Abia State

The Governor of Abia State has banned all forms of fees in primary and secondary schools, emphasizing mandatory school attendance for children. A new imprest account system will provide school principals and headteachers with monthly allowances to manage daily operations.

The Governor declared, “Schools must not collect any fees, including PTA levies, from parents, under any circumstances.” He emphasized that monthly allowances eliminate any excuse for denying children access to education. The government committed to enforcing this policy strictly to ensure compliance and guarantee free education for all students.

Budgetary Focus on Education and Health

The Governor revealed plans to allocate 35% of the 2025 budget to health and education, aiming to enhance the quality of teaching and learning. He emphasized that children of school age must be in school, warning against any child being out of classrooms during school hours. This initiative is part of a broader effort to rebuild governance and prioritize social infrastructure.

Strengthening Security Measures

In addition to education reforms, the Governor highlighted intensified measures to safeguard residents. He stated, “The government will use all available resources to address any threats to public safety.” The administration also aims to strengthen the state’s law enforcement capacity to maintain security.

Support for Vulnerable Families

The administration has allocated N18.9 billion to assist economically disadvantaged families. This initiative aligns with the state’s social protection goals to ensure wealth redistribution and support for vulnerable populations. Civil servants and retirees were assured of continued welfare and timely benefits.
