Abia Governor Otti Pledges Continued Infrastructure Development

Governor Alex Otti commits to improving infrastructure across Abia State, emphasizing unity in addressing both federal and state projects.

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, reaffirmed his commitment to fixing dilapidated infrastructure in the state, whether the projects are federally or state-owned. Speaking during a Sunday service at the Living Word Church in Aba, Otti emphasized that the Abia government does not distinguish between federal and state projects when it comes to development. He cited the ongoing renovation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Bende Local Government Area, a federal facility, as an example of this approach.

Renovation of NYSC Camp Saves Millions

Governor Otti detailed the extensive repairs underway at the NYSC orientation camp, which had fallen into severe disrepair. According to the governor, the camp, which contains 26 buildings and a hall, required urgent attention. After a thorough assessment, the state government decided to undertake the project via direct labor, significantly reducing costs. While contractors had quoted N3.6 billion for the job, the state government managed to complete the renovations for just N520 million, saving over N3 billion.

Focus on Honesty and Prudence in Governance

Otti also emphasized that his administration prioritizes honesty and prudence in its governance. He expressed impatience with dishonesty, stressing that the administration was brought to power by God, who is synonymous with truth. He also highlighted the administration’s careful approach to financial management, noting that despite economic challenges, the state has been able to achieve significant milestones without borrowing.

Support from the Church and Community

The governor thanked the Living Word Church for its unwavering support and prayers since his decision to leave his banking career for the political journey. He acknowledged the vital role that the church and the people of Abia played in his eventual success, which took nearly a decade of hard work and sacrifice. Otti credited the prayers and encouragement of Abians for the progress the state has made under his leadership.

Leadership and Transformation in Aba

In his sermon, Brother Emma Okorie, founder of the Living Word Church, celebrated the leadership of Governor Otti, describing his rise to power as “captivity overturned.” He recalled a time when he applied for a university license in Aba, only to be told that the city was too dilapidated. Today, under Otti’s leadership, Aba is seeing significant improvements, proving that transformation is possible even in challenging circumstances.

Ongoing Support from Political Leaders

Several local government officials and political leaders joined Governor Otti at the service, showing their continued support for his administration. Among them were Hon. Fyne Ahuama, Hon. Iheanacho Nwaogu, Commissioner Chibueze Nwokocha, and other prominent figures. Their presence underscored the strong unity within Abia’s political leadership as they work together for the betterment of the state.
