Abia Soldiers’ Killing: Governor Increases Bounty on Killers

Bounty Raised to N30 Million

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has raised the bounty on those responsible for the soldiers’ killing from N25 million to N30 million. This announcement came on Friday during a visit by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hasan Abubakar, in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.

Background of the Incident

The increase follows a tragic incident on May 30, where assailants killed five soldiers at Obikabia junction in Aba. Consequently, the attack, allegedly carried out by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was an attempt to enforce a sit-at-home order.

Community Support Boosts Bounty

Governor Otti explained that a donation from an Abia native residing in the United States made the bounty increase possible. Specifically, he stated, “An Abia son from Obingwa added N5 million to the existing N25 million, bringing the total bounty to N30 million.”

Collaboration with Security Agencies

Otti assured that the state government collaborates closely with security agencies to prevent such incidents in the future. Furthermore, he emphasized the state’s commitment to maintaining safety and security. Additionally, he praised the Department of State Services (DSS) for their ongoing efforts to investigate the case and bring the perpetrators to justice.

State’s Commitment to Security

The governor emphasized the state’s commitment to maintaining safety and security, saying, “We are dedicated to ensuring that Abia remains a no-go area for terrorists, killers, kidnappers, and other criminals.”

Message to Criminals

Governor Otti reiterated the government’s resolve to apprehend those responsible for the attack. Moreover, concluding his statement, he emphasized, “We must send a clear message that such heinous acts will not be tolerated in our state.”
