In a heartfelt message to mark World Youth Day, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has called on Nigerian youths to remain steadfast and hopeful amidst the nation’s political turmoil and economic challenges. He emphasized the importance of youth development and productivity in building a New Nigeria.
Obi urged the youth not to be disheartened by the current state of the nation but to use it as motivation to stay committed to the vision of a better Nigeria. “The journey to a new nation is filled with hardships and obstacles, but with resilience and perseverance, we can overcome,” he stated.
Highlighting the alarming unemployment rate in Nigeria, which stands at 33.3%, Obi warned that this could rise to 40.6%, indicating that over half of the population in their prime are jobless. He linked the nation’s high insecurity and youth-associated social vices, such as drug abuse, to this unemployment crisis.
Obi stressed the importance of creating a conducive economic environment and supporting the growth of small businesses to address these challenges. “By harnessing the energy, skills, and potentials of our youth, we can transition our nation from consumption to production,” he added.
In his concluding remarks, shared on Twitter, Obi expressed his unwavering commitment to youth development, stating, “A greater, better Nigeria is possible.”
