Akpata Pledges Comprehensive Education Reform in Edo

Commitment to Overhaul Education

Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for Edo State’s September 21 election, pledges comprehensive education reform if elected. He disclosed this during his visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat in Benin City.

Addressing Deplorable School Conditions

Akpata highlighted the dire conditions of many schools in Edo State. He specifically mentioned Ambrose Alli University, describing its current state as disastrous. He promised to restore the university’s glory and improve the overall quality of education in the state.

Modernizing the Curriculum

The LP candidate emphasized the need for comprehensive education reform by updating the curriculum to include technology as a core component. He argued that children who are not taught technology in today’s world would become functional illiterates. This curriculum overhaul aims to prepare students for the demands of the modern world.

Critique of Government Priorities

Akpata criticized the state government’s current projects, such as building a museum and investing in a five-star hotel. He labeled these as misplaced priorities, suggesting that the government should focus on more pressing issues like education and infrastructure.

Healthcare Improvements Promised

Besides education, Akpata also pledged to revamp the health sector. He proposed building healthcare centers in all 192 wards of Edo State to ensure quality healthcare is accessible to all residents. This initiative aims to address the healthcare needs of the people more effectively.

Focus on the People’s Needs

Akpata promised to put the people at the center of his governance. He criticized the current administration for neglecting the citizens’ needs and assured that his administration would prioritize their concerns, focusing on practical solutions to improve their quality of life.
