Anambra Governorship Election Scheduled for November 2025

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set the date for the 2025 Anambra State governorship election. Scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, this announcement came during a consultative meeting held by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, with political parties in Abuja.

Election Timeline Released

Prof. Yakubu outlined key dates leading up to the election. The official notice for the election will be published on November 13, 2024, complying with the Electoral Act 2022. Political parties will conduct their primaries between March 20 and April 10, 2025. The candidate nomination portal will open on April 18, 2025, and close on May 12, 2025.

Party Campaigns and Voting Plans

Political campaigns are set to begin on June 11, 2025, and will run until midnight on November 6, 2025. INEC has also confirmed that voting will take place in all 5,720 polling units across Anambra State. The election timetable and further details will soon be available on INEC’s website and social media platforms.

Adherence to Electoral Act

Yakubu stressed the importance of adhering to the Electoral Act, which mandates that the notice for any election be issued no later than 360 days before the date. He urged political parties to align their activities with the commission’s schedule to ensure smooth preparation and avoid last-minute issues.

Ondo Governorship Election Update

As preparations for the Ondo State governorship election continue, Yakubu provided updates. He noted that 10 of the 13 scheduled activities for the election, set for November 16, 2024, have already been completed. The collection of Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) in Ondo State began on October 17 and will continue until October 29.

Call for Efficiency in Ondo Election

The National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yusuf Dantalle, called on INEC to ensure transparency and efficiency during the Ondo election. He highlighted concerns about the growing disillusionment among voters, calling for issue-based campaigns and improved voter mobilisation.
