Igwe Iweka Expands Chieftaincy Cabinet

The traditional ruler of Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, His Majesty Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), has installed three new Ndiichies to strengthen the chieftaincy cabinet. The installation, held over the weekend, marks the first expansion in 30 years, highlighting the importance of these positions in guiding the community.

Significance of Ndiichies in Igbo Culture

Ndiichies, known as “esteemed ancestor” spirits, play a crucial role in Igbo society. The community reveres these elders, consults them for wisdom and advice, and sees them act as intermediaries with the Alusi (deities). This ceremony reinforces their vital function in maintaining cultural and social order in Obosi.

The selection of the new Ndiichies included Chief Francis Ogbogu, Chief Ikechukwu Onwuekwe, and Chief Samuel Nwobi for their leadership and community service.Igwe Iweka conducted the installation during a vibrant ceremony attended by prominent members of the Obosi royal cabinet, including Chief Godwin Osakwe, Chief Hyman Udemba, Chief Linus Mgbakogu, and Chief Dr. Ndudi Monago. Igwe Iweka chose the new Ndiichies, Chief Francis Ogbogu, Chief Ikechukwu Onwuekwe, and Chief Samuel Nwobi, for their leadership and community service.

Addressing past issues of cultism and youth restiveness, Igwe Iweka noted the progress made in restoring peace and stability in Obosi. Moreover, he credited the royal cabinet and the Obosi town union for their efforts in eradicating these problems. As a result, the community expects the new Ndiichies to continue this positive trend, ensuring ongoing peace and development.
