Bandits raid a Kaduna school and abduct students from LEA Primary School in Kuriga, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State, this morning, reports say. According to a local citizen, the bandits who overran the town in huge numbers abducted at least one hundred students. As of the time this report was submitted, the incident’s specifics were still hazy. Additionally, rumors circulated that the school’s head teacher and other employees were among the people kidnapped by the thugs.
Last Thursday, gunmen invaded GoninGora in Chikun LGA, leading locals to block the Kaduna-Abuja Motorway, protesting unknown residents’ kidnapping. The ensuing gridlock on the highway served as a stark representation of the frustration and desperation of the local populace, calling for immediate action from the state authorities.
In the wake of the abduction, the Kaduna State Police Command mobilized a search and rescue operation. Families of the kidnapped were left in anguish, creating an atmosphere pervaded by fear and uncertainty.
Consequently, community leaders have called for increased security and federal support to tackle the surge in abductions and insecurity. They insist that education is a fundamental right, and schools should be a safe space, not a battleground.
The recent increase in school abductions highlights Nigeria’s security issues, especially in the north, where incidents are becoming more frequent.
Activists and human rights advocates have condemned the attacks and are calling for a comprehensive strategy to protect educational institutions from such vulnerabilities.
The abductors assaulted the village on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, robbing an unknown number of the inhabitants. Residents were obliged to gather outside to protest what they saw as the hoodlums’ audacity in targeting the area after the incident, which occurred on Thursday between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., according to eyewitnesses.
