Speaking Thursday, he announced prosecutions against perpetrators while detailing reconstruction plans for the affected community. The governor highlighted ongoing measures to rebuild infrastructure and support victims comprehensively.
Tragic Explosion Claims Lives, Damages Property
The explosion, which shook Dejo Oyelese Close, Adeyi Avenue in the Bodija area of Ibadan, occurred during an African Cup of Nations match, leaving residents in shock and confusion. Security agencies and emergency responders rushed to the scene and discovered that the blast was caused by explosives stockpiled in a residential building. The devastating incident claimed five lives and left several structures severely damaged.
Government’s Response to the Incident
Addressing the public, Governor Makinde disclosed that those implicated in the explosion are currently being prosecuted for terrorism. “They are being held in custody and will face the full weight of the law,” he stated. The governor further announced the establishment of a relief disbursement committee to coordinate financial aid for affected residents. This committee includes representatives from the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Nigerian Bar Association, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists, ensuring a transparent and inclusive process.
Reconstruction and Development Plans
