Dana Air Incident: Incident Linked to Faulty Landing Gear

After an aircraft belonging to Dana Air skidded off the runway, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau issued its initial findings on the incident. The report attributes the incident to a malfunctioning Nose Landing Gear, causing significant concern. The investigation pertains to an event that occurred on April 23, 2024, highlighting safety issues. Consequently, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority immediately suspended Dana Air’s operations following the incident. This suspension underscores the serious nature of the malfunction and its implications for airline safety.

The report stated that severe vibrations and a loud noise came from the Nose Landing Gear area at 80 knots. As the aircraft approached this speed, the Captain noticed the Nose Landing Gear collapsing. This collapse led to a significant loss of directional control, causing the plane to veer off the runway. Although the control tower had cleared the aircraft to land, it was unable to maintain proper direction. The intense vibrations and landing gear failure forced the aircraft to exit the runway unexpectedly.

Upon halting, the Captain initiated engine shutdown and ordered evacuation through the Forward Service Door due to safety concerns. All occupants evacuated without injuries. Dana Air management confirmed the incident, stating that the aircraft skidded off the runway during landing, with no casualties reported. They promptly notified relevant aviation authorities of the occurrence for further investigation and action.
