Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori seriously warns monarchs in the state, cautioning them against shielding suspects involved in the killing of 17 military personnel in Okuama Community, Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Governor Oborevwori delivered this warning during an address to traditional rulers at the State Traditional Rulers’ Council Secretariat in Asaba, thereby emphasizing the severity of the incident and the need for cooperation in apprehending the perpetrators.
The tragic event occurred during a communal clash over a land dispute in Bomadi and Okuoma communities, resulting in the ambush and killing of the military personnel from the 181 Amphibious Battalion. Many residents of Okuama in the Ughelli South Local Government Area and Okolaba in the Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, fled the communities, as soldiers took over the area and reportedly set some houses ablaze in reaction to the killing of the soldiers.
Expressing shock and condemnation, Governor Oborevwori described the killings as barbaric, inhumane, and unacceptable. Consequently, he emphasized that those responsible must face the full consequences of their actions under the law.
