Deposed Emir of Kano: Abba Kabir Orders Bayero’s Arrest

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has commanded the swift arrest of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, for inciting unrest in the state. This decision follows Bayero’s covert return to Kano city, aiming to reclaim the palace just two days after his deposition by the Governor.

Secretive Return to Kano

The former Emir was smuggled into the city under cover of night, in a clandestine effort to retake the palace. This action came shortly after his dethronement, escalating tensions within the state. The Governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed these events in an official statement.

New Emir Installed

In contrast, the newly appointed Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was escorted to the palace by the Governor, Deputy Governor, Speaker of the State Assembly, and other high-ranking officials. This event took place at around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, 25th May 2024, signifying a significant shift in Kano’s leadership.

Governor’s Directive

As the state’s Chief Security Officer, Governor Yusuf has instructed the Commissioner of Police to detain the deposed Emir without delay. This order aims to prevent further disruption and maintain the state’s fragile peace.
