In a shocking incident, Department of State Services (DSS) operatives sparked chaos at the National Assembly Complex, leading to the assault of two senior staff members. The altercation ensued when the operatives demanded identification cards from workers, escalating into physical confrontation.
Demand for Identification Leads to Altercation
Tensions arose when DSS operatives demanded identification cards from National Assembly staff members as they moved between different structures within the complex. John Nnadi and Chris Odoh objected to this demand, triggering a physical confrontation with the agents, who then proceeded to forcefully escort them to the DSS office.
Witnesses, including bystanders and National Assembly staff, expressed sympathy for the assaulted members and demanded their immediate release. Subsequently, law enforcement and legislative officials present made efforts to calm the situation. According to an eyewitness who spoke to our correspondent, the security agents halted the National Assembly workers as they failed to provide identification. Furthermore, incensed by the assertiveness of the DSS personnel, the two individuals attempted to enter forcefully, resulting in their rough treatment and assault by the security operatives.
Efforts by bystanders to intervene exacerbated the situation, leading to the armed men dragging Nnadi and Idoh to their office within the White House Complex. Subsequently, the mistreatment of the staff elicited empathy from those within the vicinity, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. Concerned by the ongoing events, staff members from various offices within the White House, including the Senate mace bearer, converged at the DSS office, urging the immediate release of their colleagues.
Appeals for Restoring Order
Divisional Police Officer Alex Annagu and Deputy Clerk to the Senate Mrs. Ilobah Isabella intervened, urging everyone to return to their offices in an attempt to restore order amidst rising tensions. The incident underscores the need for improved security protocols at the National Assembly.
