Edo Election: Police Arrest PDP Members for Vote Buying

The Nigerian Police Force has arrested several members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in connection with vote buying during the Edo State gubernatorial elections. Police apprehended two suspects, Emotingham Godspower and Farawei Isaac, in Ovia Southwest Local Government Area. Authorities found them with a large sum of money and voter lists, allegedly used to influence voters.

Suspects Arrested with Cash and Ballot Papers

At So Cash Guest House in Ekpoma, the police discovered a substantial amount of cash, pre-filled ballot papers, and fake identification cards. The police confirmed that the suspects are part of a larger network allegedly involving an individual known as ‘Atiku’ and another kingpin identified as ‘the boss.’ This operation points to a more organised system of electoral malpractice in the Edo election.

Additional Arrests Made in Auchi for Voter Intimidation

Police arrested six individuals at Aibotse Secondary School in Auchi for engaging in vote buying and voter intimidation. Officers discovered weapons, money, and documents detailing strategies to manipulate the voting process in the suspects’ possession. The Nigerian police have vowed to crack down on all illegal activities during the elections to ensure a free and fair process.

PDP Candidate Accuses INEC of Delays

Asue Ighodalo, the PDP governorship candidate, expressed his frustration over delays in voting caused by the late arrival of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials. He cast his vote at Idionrio Primary School, Esan South East LGA, while raising concerns about reports of compromised polling units in his strongholds. Ighodalo believes these delays could affect the credibility of the electoral process.
