Eight Arrested in Connection to Murder of University Lecturer in Maiduguri

The Borno State Police Command has made significant strides in the investigation of the tragic murder of Dr. Kamar Abdulkadir, a lecturer at the Department of Physical Health Education at the University of Maiduguri. Abdulkadir was found slain in his office on campus, his body bearing several injuries inflicted by his assailants.

Confirming the arrest of eight suspects allegedly linked to the heinous crime, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nahun Daso, revealed that the perpetrators not only took the life of the esteemed educator but also made off with his vehicle, phone, and laptop. Despite challenges posed by poor quality CCTV footage, law enforcement officers have been relentless in their pursuit of justice.

“We reviewed the CCTV camera and saw them going out of the university with the deceased’s vehicle. However, the quality of the video was very poor so we could not see the number of people that were inside the car,” Daso stated.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the academic community and beyond. Speaking on behalf of the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Shugaba, the Director of Radio and Public Relations, Prof. Danjuma Gambo, expressed the institution’s commitment to cooperating fully with law enforcement agencies in uncovering the truth behind Abdulkadir’s untimely demise.

“Given the gravity of the situation, management advises all staff and students to remain calm and go about their normal, legitimate businesses because the University is working closely with relevant security agencies to get to the root of the matter,” Gambo asserted.

In light of this tragedy, concerns regarding campus safety have been raised. However, management assured parents, guardians, and stakeholders that the University of Maiduguri remains a secure environment for education and community engagement.
