Police have arrested Rachael Olufogbe, a 300-level student at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, after she physically assaulted a fellow student on Saturday. The incident occurred in a private hostel in Oye Egbo, outside the university premises, following a disagreement over the use of a clothesline.

Incident Details

The altercation began when the victim moved Olufogbe’s clothes to create space for her own on the clothesline. This action led to a heated verbal exchange between the two students.

The situation quickly escalated as Olufogbe picked up a blade and attacked the victim, inflicting severe injuries on her throat, head, and chest.

University’s Response

Vice-Chancellor Prof Sunday Fashina confirmed the incident and noted it took place off-campus. He stressed that such actions would not be tolerated on university grounds due to strict regulations. The university awaits the police investigation before conducting its own inquiry.

Police Investigation Underway

The suspect remains in police custody as the investigation continues. Efforts to reach the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, for further comments have been unsuccessful.
