In a disturbing turn of events, a farmer’s house was set ablaze by angry youths in the Angwa Rukuba-Etoo Baba community of Plateau State. Reports indicate that the mob also targeted the farmer’s poultry farm, looting birds before setting the entire farm alight.
Mrs. Janet Haruna, a community resident, attributes the incident to the alleged killing of a security guard by the farmer. Consequently, Haruna explained that the farmer’s son, suspecting the guard of theft, confronted him, leading to a fatal altercation.
“The fire consumed the house, along with the cars parked in the compound, and spread to a neighboring building,” Haruna stated, describing the extent of the damage.
The escalation of the situation prompted swift responses from emergency services and security forces. The Plateau State Fire Service dispatched units to contain the blaze, preventing its spread to nearby properties. Concurrently, authorities deployed security personnel to maintain order and prevent further violence.
Alabo Alfred, the spokesman for the state police command, acknowledged the incident and directed inquiries to the Divisional Police Officer overseeing the area. He assured the public of law enforcement’s commitment to restoring peace and order.
The incident highlights the fragility of communal relations and the potential for violence to erupt over perceived injustices. As authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack, calls for dialogue and conflict resolution mechanisms intensify to prevent future outbreaks of violence in the region.
