The Federal Government has greenlit a salary increment ranging from 25% to 35% for civil servants falling under the six remaining Consolidated Salary Structures. This decision, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by Emmanuel Njoku, the Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), comes just ahead of the 2024 Workers’ Day celebration.
The increase in salaries will be retroactive from January 1st, 2024. The affected Salary Structures encompass the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).
Previously, salary adjustments had been made for employees in the tertiary education and health sectors, covering the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS), Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).
Additionally, pensioners enrolled in the defined benefits scheme linked to the aforementioned six consolidated salary structures will see their pensions raised by 20% to 28%, as per the government’s recent approval.
