Introduction to CNG Buses Initiative

The Federal Government of Nigeria has recently taken a significant step to boost the transportation sector by acquiring 70 hybrid Jet Mover buses that operate on both compressed natural gas (CNG) and premium motor spirit. This initiative is part of a broader effort to offer more affordable and environmentally friendly transportation options to the Nigerian public.

Local Production Boost

Jet Motor Company, a Nigerian automobile manufacturer, announced the completion of these state-of-the-art buses at its factory in Ajah, Lagos. This move not only promotes local manufacturing but also aligns with the government’s commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.

Ceremony Highlights

A formal handover ceremony was held at the manufacturing plant, attended by key figures from the Ministry of Finance and representatives from the Presidential Initiative for Compressed Natural Gas. The event showcased the government’s support for innovative projects that cater to the public’s needs while addressing economic challenges.

Government’s Commitment

Dimas Hamidu, the Technical Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, praised the quality of the buses and highlighted their importance in mitigating the impact of fuel subsidy removals. “These vehicles represent a crucial step in our strategy to alleviate transportation costs for Nigerians,” Hamidu remarked.

Future Prospects

The government has plans to continue collaborating with multiple companies to expand the availability of CNG vehicles, addressing public demand and enhancing the transportation infrastructure. This proactive approach aims to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
