This decision follows the approval of the NFF Board, endorsing the recommendation made by its Technical and Development Committee, entrusting the leadership role to the 52-year-old former Ajax Amsterdam and Real Betis forward.

Following Peseiro’s departure post-2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Finidi George stepped in as interim coach for the Super Eagles. During his interim tenure, George managed two friendly matches in Morocco, where the team secured a significant 2-1 victory against Ghana, ending an 18-year winless streak, but faced a setback with a 0-2 loss to Mali.
