Finidi George Unveiled as New Super Eagles Coach

On Monday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) unveiled Finidi George as the new coach of the Super Eagles. At the unveiling ceremony, where he officially signed alongside NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and Sports Minister John Enoh, the details of Finidi’s contract were undisclosed despite his appointment being announced two weeks earlier.

Assisting Finidi in his coaching role will be his former Super Eagles teammate Daniel Amokachi and Benjamin James, a former Shooting Stars player based in Germany. The coaching team will also include Mehmet Ozturk as an analyst and Chima Onyeike, a fitness trainer based in the Netherlands with experience in Russia, Germany, and Greece. Additionally, Olatunji Baruwa will resume his role as the goalkeeper trainer.

Despite the appointment, there are speculations regarding the duration of Finidi’s contract. Football analyst Osasu Obayiuawana raised questions about the length of Finidi’s tenure, suggesting that the Nigeria Football Federation might have offered him only a one-year contract. This uncertainty surrounding the duration of Finidi’s contract has led to discussions and debates within the football community.

Nevertheless, the Nigeria Football Federation has tasked Finidi George with leading the Super Eagles in their upcoming campaign, which includes crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin scheduled for later in June. As the new coach, Finidi will oversee the team’s preparations and guide them through the challenges ahead on the international stage.
