Labour Party Triumphs in UK Elections

On July 4, 2024, British citizens voted overwhelmingly for the Labour Party, securing 412 out of 650 seats and ending the Conservative Party’s 14-year rule. Consequently, Keir Starmer has been appointed as the new British Prime Minister, succeeding Rishi Sunak.

Kemi Badenoch Re-elected

Despite the Conservative Party’s defeat, British-Nigerian Kemi Badenoch retained her seat in North West Essex. She won with 19,360 votes, defeating Labour’s Issy Waiter, who received 16,750 votes. Badenoch expressed her gratitude and acknowledged the public’s clear message of lost trust in the Conservatives.

Bayo Alaba’s Victory in Newcastle

British-Nigerian businessman Bayo Alaba won the Southend East and Rochford seat for the Labour Party. He secured 15,395 votes, surpassing the Conservative candidate, Gavin Haran, who garnered 11,368 votes. Alaba, a former Parachute Regiment soldier and youth mentor, pledged to repay the trust placed in him by his constituents.

Taiwo Owatemi’s Comeback

Former MP Taiwo Owatemi made a successful return to the UK Parliament, winning the Coventry North West seat for the Labour Party. Owatemi received 19,696 votes, defeating Tory candidate Tom Mercer, who obtained 8,522 votes. She expressed her deep gratitude to the people of Coventry North West for their trust and support.

Chi Onwurah’s Continued Success

Chi Onwurah was re-elected as an MP representing Newcastle upon Tyne Central and West for the Labour Party. She won with 18,875 votes, as the Labour Party achieved a landslide victory. Onwurah thanked her constituents for their confidence and promised to represent them diligently in Parliament.
