Expanding Health Initiatives for Women
Access Bank’s Retail Banking Team has announced a significant initiative to conduct free fibroid surgeries for 100 women across Nigeria. This initiative is part of Project 111’s second Fibroid Awareness Campaign, aiming to enhance health and awareness for women.
Project 111: A Focus on Women’s Health
Project 111 aims to treat one woman at a time, positively affecting her family and future generations. Fibroids are benign uterine tumors that can cause severe discomfort and reproductive complications in women. The campaign includes a series of webinars throughout July 2024, aimed at educating women about fibroids and available treatments.
Webinars and Community Support
The campaign will kick off with a webinar that seeks to increase awareness about fibroids among women. “This initiative targets the crucial need to raise fibroid awareness among women,” the bank stated, noting that while many women develop fibroids, awareness and knowledge about treatment remain low.
A Commitment Beyond Banking
Chizoma Okoli, Deputy Managing Director of Retail at Access Bank, affirmed the bank’s commitment to enhancing community well-being beyond typical banking services. “We support our customers’ overall health by providing essential resources for effective health management,” Okoli declared. In 2022, the bank’s first launch of this project provided over 100 free surgeries and directly impacted thousands of lives.
Expanding the Reach
This year, the campaign aims to broaden its impact by targeting 100,000 women, offering 500 free diagnostic tests, and facilitating 100 critical surgeries. “Our dedicated website provides comprehensive resources, including information on fibroids, details of partner hospitals, and updates on the initiative,” added Okoli.
Personal Testimonies and Continued Outreach
Njideka Esomeju, Group Head of Consumer Banking, highlighted the upcoming activities: “As part of our campaign, we are conducting free fibroid screenings and health talks across 20 states.” The campaign has previously reached thousands of women, providing them with vital health screenings and advice. One beneficiary, Hannatu Botsha, shared her gratitude: “I received free surgery in 2022, which significantly improved my quality of life.”
