IPOB Challenges Soludo on Kanu’s Release

IPOB Insists Kanu’s Release Will End Insecurity

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has strongly contested Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo’s recent statement about the release of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. IPOB believes that Kanu’s freedom is the key to ending the ongoing insecurity in the South-East, contradicting Soludo’s view. Soludo had expressed doubt over the effectiveness of Kanu’s release in addressing the security issues plaguing the region.

Soludo Questions Kanu’s Impact on Security

During a press briefing on December 17, Governor Soludo questioned whether Kanu’s release would have any significant effect on the security situation in the South-East. He argued that criminals have hijacked the Biafran struggle, using Kanu’s name to justify their illegal activities and perpetuate violence. Soludo’s comments suggest that those responsible for the region’s insecurity are not motivated by Kanu’s imprisonment but by their own criminal intentions.

IPOB Responds to Soludo’s Criticism

IPOB, through its spokesperson Emma Powerful, responded by accusing Governor Soludo of aligning himself with politicians who oppose Kanu’s release. Powerful criticized the governor’s stance, which he described as illogical and counterintuitive, considering Soludo’s previous calls for Kanu’s release. He emphasized that releasing Kanu would deny criminals the cover of the Biafran cause, leading to a reduction in insecurity.

A Bold Challenge from IPOB

In a statement released on Monday, IPOB boldly challenged Soludo’s view by stating that if Kanu’s release does not result in the cessation of insecurity within two weeks, the group would cease to exist. This declaration underscores IPOB’s confidence in Kanu’s ability to end the violence that has plagued the region. They believe that the release of their leader would disrupt the criminals using the Biafran cause to justify their actions.

Soludo’s Past and IPOB’s Response

IPOB pointed out that Governor Soludo, during his time in Abuja, failed to grasp the full extent of the security problems in the South-East, particularly the reign of terror by killer herdsmen. The group claimed that it was only after IPOB’s intervention, through its security arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), that these security challenges were significantly reduced. They believe Kanu’s leadership would similarly restore peace to the region.

Call for Transparency from South-East Governors

IPOB also called on the South-East Governors Forum to publicly explain their reluctance to advocate for Kanu’s release, despite their previous pledges. They accused these governors of prioritizing political interests over the welfare of the people. IPOB remains adamant that Kanu, through his global movement, can bring an end to insecurity and restore peace to the South-East.
