Tragedy struck in Aba, Abia State, when gunmen ambushed and killed two Nigerian soldiers. This incident occurred during the sit-at-home declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to mark Biafra Heroes Day.
The attack happened on Thursday at the Obikabia junction in Ogbor Hill. Multiple sources posted video reports on social media, showing the deadly ambush. The soldiers were caught off guard, leading to a fatal confrontation.
Videos circulated online depicted men setting a military vehicle on fire and gunshots being heard in the background. The streets appeared deserted as residents adhered to the sit-at-home order, commemorating those who died in the Biafra War of 1967-1970.
The identities of the attackers remain unknown. The Nigerian Army has yet to release an official statement as details continue to emerge. The atmosphere remains tense, with security forces on high alert.
Furthermore, IPOB had earlier advised educational institutions to reschedule events in the South East slated for May 30. Despite the warnings, the day saw a significant security presence in states like Anambra State, with residents making last-minute purchases to avoid being stranded during the sit-at-home period.
Meanwhile, Simon Ekpa, the Prime minister of Biafra Government in Exile , posted the video on his social media page, praising the attackers. This statement further fuels the already volatile situation, highlighting the ongoing challenges in the region.
