Israel-Palestine Conflict: Nigeria Calls for Ceasefire

Nigeria Urges Global Support for Biden’s Proposal

Nigeria has joined the call for a ceasefire in the escalating Israel-Palestine conflict, urging world leaders to back US President Joe Biden’s proposal. Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, made a strong appeal for peace and immediate global action, through coordinated international efforts, in order to protect innocent lives and stop violence.

“Nigeria assures the United States of its support to achieve a complete cessation of violence and end the senseless loss of human lives,” Tuggar stated in a release signed by his media aide, AlKasim Abdulkadir. Furthermore, Nigeria sees Biden’s ceasefire plan, which includes a permanent ceasefire, increased humanitarian aid, the release of hostages, and major reconstruction efforts, as the most viable path forward. Moreover, building on this perspective, Tuggar urged world leaders to embrace the proposal and intensify efforts towards a swift resolution.

Humanitarian Aid Crucial

Continuous and unhindered humanitarian aid is crucial, Tuggar added, highlighting the need for lifesaving support for civilians affected by the conflict. The ongoing bloodshed underscores the necessity for immediate international intervention.

Global Implications of the Conflict

The conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with reports from Israel’s National Council for the Child indicating 1,200 Israeli deaths, including 38 children, from Hamas attacks last October. In response, Israeli bombardments in Gaza have caused thousands of fatalities, with the Hamas-run health ministry reporting 36,731 deaths, including many children.

UN Condemnation

The United Nations recently placed the Israeli military on a list of parties accused of violations against children in conflict zones. Consequently, Tuggar’s call for global action aims to address these humanitarian concerns and bring about a peaceful resolution.
