Justice for Oyo University Student, NANS Assures

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Oyo Axis, has vowed to secure justice for Alex Timileyin, a student of Ajayi Crowther University, who was tortured to death over a phone theft allegation. NANS Oyo Chairman, Ridwan Adegoke, made this assurance during a telephone interview on Wednesday.

Timileyin’s colleagues brutally beat him on Saturday after accusing him of stealing a mobile phone. The assault, which eyewitnesses confirmed lasted from Friday evening until Saturday morning, resulted in his death. Following the incident, the university expelled the culprits and handed them over to the police for further investigation.

Adegoke emphasized that NANS is closely monitoring the justice process. He assured that the management and police are actively working to ensure that the law takes its course. He stated, “I actively seek justice because I represent the deceased, a fellow student, and I cannot compromise.”

Moreover, Adegoke revealed that he had visited the Ajayi Crowther University campus and met with the management team and the police. He confirmed that the school involved the Department of State Services (DSS) to apprehend a student on the run and contacted the parents of the alleged student to assist in his surrender.

Additionally, the incident has sparked a broader discussion on enhancing campus security to prevent future occurrences. NANS has met with the school management to advocate for improved security measures, aiming to prevent such tragic incidents from happening again.

The Oyo State Ministry of Education has also called for calm and cooperation among all parties involved. State Commissioner for Education, Salihu Adelabu, committed the government to resolving the issue and urged the school to increase campus security to ensure a peaceful academic environment.
