Lagos State Environmental Agency Temporarily Shuts Down Churches and Hotels Over Noise Pollution

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has undertaken temporary measures to address noise pollution in the region. Between March 23 and April 26, LASEPA has closed down a total of five churches and 19 hotels due to noise pollution concerns.

Among the establishments temporarily shuttered are notable places of worship such as St Monica’s Hall of Our Lady of Lord’s Catholic Church, Christ Rock of Fire Ministry, Wonderful Bible Prayer Ministries, God’s Porch Ministries, and an unnamed Catholic Church. These enforcement actions have also affected various hotels, including School2bar, Blue Seasons Hotel and Suites, Sulerious Lakeside Hotel, Monero Hotel and Suites, and Lekki Hotel and Suites.

Tokunbo Wahab, the State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, shared updates on these developments through his social media account. Wahab emphasized that they sealed the affected establishments, including churches, bars, and hotels, in areas like Ifako-Ijaiye, Abule-Egba, Alagbado, Command, Abesan Estate, and Dopemu due to their contribution to noise pollution.

The comprehensive enforcement operation carried out by LASEPA aimed to tackle noise pollution and other environmental breaches across strategic areas of Lagos State. Notable establishments impacted by the closures include the Catholic Church, Seventh Heaven Bar and Lounge, 1602 Hotel, Lourita Hotel and Suites, and Quest Hotel and Suites. The closures aim to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and mitigate noise pollution and other environmental infractions.

LASEPA emphasized the importance of businesses adhering to environmental standards and underscored the necessity for compliance with regulations to safeguard the environment and the well-being of residents.
