Tragic Incident During Protest

An improvised explosive device (IED) explosion during a protest against bad governance at Deribe Junction, near the Federal Government Girls’ College Monguno Annex Bulumkutu area in Maiduguri, resulting in the death of one male victim and injuring eleven others. The Borno Police Command, led by Commissioner Yusuf Lawal, reported the incident on Friday, stating that the injured were promptly taken to the State Specialist Hospital Maiduguri for treatment, and the deceased was sent for autopsy.

Swift Police Response

Commissioner Lawal detailed that the police swiftly deployed personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Device, Base 13, to secure the area around a nearby filling station. Their prompt action ensured that the vicinity was rendered safe, preventing further casualties and damage. The police have assured residents that investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators behind the attack.

Separate Homicide Incident in Biu

In a separate but equally concerning incident, a case of culpable homicide was reported in Biu local government area. Muhammad Wakshama reported that his son-in-law, Ibrahim Bulama, had a fatal altercation with his wife, Maryam Ibrahim. During the argument, Bulama struck Maryam with a stick, resulting in severe head injuries. Despite being taken to the General Hospital Biu for treatment, Maryam was declared dead on Thursday.

Suspect Arrested

The police have arrested the suspect, Ibrahim Bulama, and recovered the exhibit used in the crime. Commissioner Lawal confirmed that investigations are underway to gather more details about the incident and to ensure justice is served.

Casualty Report

These tragic events bring the total number of deaths in Borno State to 17 in the past 48 hours, with many others injured. The spike in violence underscores the volatile situation in the region, which has been marred by protests and criminal activities.
